The museum has reopened its doors to the public for the summer season.
NEW PHOTOGRAPHIC EXHIBITION
Come discover the magnificent photographs by the talented photographer Pascal GRIMAUD.
Long idealized, fictionalized, or romanticized, Mistral’s Provence—nestled between the Rhône, the Durance, and the Alpilles—continues, like the region as a whole, to transform.
The landscape bears witness to this and is its living imprint. Transportation routes, urban sprawl, and the abandonment of agricultural practices are its scars. Hobby horses have replaced farmers, mowed grass has replaced crops, and gates, privacy screens, and low walls have replaced nourishing hedges. A political geography of emptiness and self-importance is replacing a vernacular landscape and its poetry of chance. The picturesque imprisons and displaces, and grandiose possession breeds a temporary sense of rootedness.
Here, the focus is on the apprehension of a territory and its photographic inventory, as a cultural reference point, the matrix for the construction of an identity. The images are fragments of this empirical knowledge of a country, a territory of play, learning, otherness, and fears.
This exhibition is built around four distinct series, created between 2015 and 2025, two of which, *Le temps présent* and *L’hortus**, have been published. The works of Mario Prassinos and Auguste Chabaud have accompanied him throughout these projects.

Frédéric MISTRAL
A poet who wrote in Provençal, he was also a lexicographer, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1904 and co-founder of the Félibrige movement. Born in Maillane in 1830, he had his home built in 1876, the year of his marriage.
A true showcase for an illustrious man, a place of work and literary gatherings, the house was the scene of tireless efforts to protect and promote a language: Provençal.
Frédéric Mistral bequeathed his home, along with all its furnishings, library and correspondence, to the municipality of Maillane, which has since taken on the task of preserving and promoting Mistral's legacy.
