Life of an illustrious man

September 8, 1830: Birth of Frédéric Mistral at the Mas du Juge in Maillane (Bouches-du-Rhône).

March 21, 1854: Participation in the creation of the Félibrige, an academy dedicated to the defense and promotion of the Occitan language.

1855: Death of François Mistral, Frédéric's father, who then moved with his mother to the Maison du Lézard.

1852-1859: Wrote Mirèio, an epic poem in Provençal, Mistral's masterpiece. Immediate fame thanks to the support of Lamartine.

1876: Construction of his house, now the Mistral Museum, and marriage to Marie-Louise-Aimée Rivière.

1879: First publication of Trésor du Félibrige, a French-Provençal dictionary.

1899: Inauguration of the Museon Arlaten.

1904: Nobel Prize in Literature shared with José Etchegarray.

1914: Frédéric Mistral dies at his home in Maillane.
