Frédéric MISTRAL
A poet who wrote in Provençal, he was also a lexicographer, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1904 and co-founder of the Félibrige movement. Born in Maillane in 1830, he had his home built in 1876, the year of his marriage.
A true showcase for an illustrious man, a place of work and literary gatherings, the house was the scene of tireless efforts to protect and promote a language: Provençal.
Frédéric Mistral bequeathed his home, along with all its furnishings, library and correspondence, to the municipality of Maillane, which has since taken on the task of preserving and promoting Mistral's legacy.
